Methodology
Dates and editions
Every national field and regional observation retains its supplied reference period. An edition date identifies the assembled book; it does not mean all information was measured in that month. Source release, access, field revision and observation dates have different meanings. Missing dates are identified as not supplied.
The selected edition keeps its national chapters, regional records, source notes and display conversion rates together. Source checks can flag changed or unavailable evidence without changing the underlying reference period.
National evidence
National chapters retain the historical reference text alongside dated observations and recorded editorial updates. These evidence layers can use different definitions and dates. A later number does not silently replace a claim with incompatible coverage. Select a numbered reference or linked observation year to inspect the source information.
Single source means one source lineage supports the observation. Primary source checked means the recorded official release, reference period, definition and identity were checked; it does not establish independent corroboration or historical border comparability. Corroborated is reserved for independent evidence with compatible definitions, units and observation dates. Mirrors and republications of one upstream source do not provide independent confirmation.
Regions and jurisdictions
Administrative divisions, statistical regions and associated jurisdictions retain their own types and source systems. They can overlap. A book association does not by itself establish administrative containment or sovereignty.
Recorded source observation dates can support a roster as recorded by that source. They do not establish when a boundary or relationship legally began. Historical end dates and future or unresolved changes remain distinct. Source review warnings identify records whose evidence requires reconciliation.
Missing and held information
Unresearched sections and missing observations remain explicit gaps. National figures are not used as regional estimates. Held regional values are unavailable in the reading text; the reason for the hold remains visible. A source review hold and the owner’s edition approval are separate states.
Measurements, currency and comparisons
Display settings can change measurement units while retaining original evidence in source information. Currency conversion uses sourced annual average rates for the observation year in this edition. Missing rates and incompatible units remain explicit limitations. Purchasing power parity figures are not converted as ordinary exchange-rate amounts.
Historical charts retain gaps and source coverage notes. Rankings compare available observations with the same indicator, reference year and source unit; they do not establish universal comparability or a complete sovereign-country ranking.
Edition review and independence
This edition remains Draft unless an explicit owner approval event is recorded for this exact edition. An automated refresh or source check does not create owner approval or independently verify every field.
This independent reference project is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Central Intelligence Agency or the U.S. government. Inclusion, naming and source geography do not express a position on sovereignty or recognition.
